" Driving web traffic is big business. Retailers spend millions of dollars every year in an attempt to draw web surfers to their site, hopefully converting them from browsers to buyers.
While social media campaigns, follower ads, and e-mail promotions are all viable ways to drive traffic to retailers' e-commerce sites, the ability to drive web traffic organically through search engines results are a key indicator that something has gone right — or terribly wrong.
Google's annual list of its most searched terms of the past year reveals that the Paris terrorist attacks, The Oscars, and Caitlyn Jenner were all top trending topics in 2015. While web users inevitably leverage top search engines like Google and Yahoo to research key trending events they also use the technology to research their favorite brands and retailers. "
